BCC is currently seeking sponsorship for the Brunswick Track Open, to be held at DISC on Saturday January 31st. Race sponsorship from $100 includes advertising in the event program, naming rights for race(s) and event supporter banners on the BCC web site.

Monday Madison Training

Madison training at HSV Monday evenings/nights will re-commence as of 05/01/09. All track riders are welcome, madison training/racing is for everyone. Great skills and bike handling training as well as interval training.

Madison training runs from 7pm Monday nights at the Harrison Street Velodrome.

When: 08:00 to 11:00 Sunday 4 Jan 2009.

Where: DISC (John Cain Memorial Park) - Darebin Road (just East of Station Street) Thornbury.

Cost: $10.00

What to Bring: Helmet, Track bike (gear 80 to 90 inch) if you’ve got one, but if not Pedals, Shoes (SPD or road OK), cycling gloves if you have them, something to drink (no…not alcoholic!) and a snack if you like.

What to Wear: Cycling clothes - e.g. Knicks & Jersey or Shorts & T-shirt.

What happens?: The rules and conventions of track will be explained and everyone will get the chance to roll around and practice some track skills in the company of an experienced rider. We may even do some time trials to test yourself against the rest of the group.

What if I don’t have a bike?: A limited number of bikes will be available for loan at no extra charge (they have pedals and toe clips if you require or you can provide your own pedals and shoes)

How easy it?: Really easy and a lot of fun.

How hard is it?: It’s up to you. You might work up a sweat but not if you don’t want to.

Is it dangerous?: All bike riding has an element of risk. Riding on the Velodrome is no more dangerous than riding on the road as long as you follow instructions and do the right thing.

Can I turn up without registering?: No - Please make sure you register at least 48 hrs in advance.

What if I love it so much I must do it again?: We’ll explain how to join the club and how to get into track riding and racing.

International class Keiren on Friday

On Friday 19 Dec starting at 7PM, DISC will play host to an international class of competitors for the Victorian Scratch and Keiren Championships.

The field includes Aussie rep Shane Perkins, a number of the red hot Malaysian track team including 2008 Austral silver medalist Azizul Awang, masters world champ Steven Sansonetti and a host of other class riders.

Flying the Brunswick flag will be Patrick Drapac in the M19 division, and Kendelle Hodges in the W19 event and close friends of Brunswick, Nicole Holt (CCCC), Megan Marsh (HAW) and Cari Higgins of the Proman USA team. Keep an eye out also for Peta Stewart of Albury Wodonga who clocked the fastest 500mTT of all comers at the recent Victorian Womens Omnium.

The scratch racing will also be an exciting spectacle especially with Kendelle in the W19 event. In the men’s scratch Brunswick will be represented by Stuart Grimsey who’s been spotted at some recent roller derbies and Brunswick members Casey Munro and Pat Drapac.

So get down to DISC on Friday night and catch some of the action.

Oh and don’t forget that there’s Pursuit and Sprint racing on Saturday and the Points, TT and Madison on Sunday too! (look out for 2008 club captain Oliver Phillips in the Madison)

Contrary to what was published in the recent newsletter, this coming Sunday’s track skills sesion (December 21st) will be held at Harrison St Velodrome 08:00 to 11:00.

No Sunday Skills session on 28 Dec and 4 Jan, Sunday Skills will be resuming at DISC on Sunday 11th Jan 2009.
