With a brilliant forecast on the horizon, all of about 4 degrees or so, Miners rest was the host for the Vic Club TTT champs. As
Brunswick #1 warmed up (or at least attempted to) they endured the somewhat average climate under their club tent, thankfully erected by early arriving members. If not for the early birds, the task ahead of them would have been just that bit tougher without the tent screen blocking a rather tasty northerly.

Well, many parents are breathing a sigh of relief as the Junior Road season wrapped up at the State Championships in Wangaratta on the weekend. After what has been a long season with many bonding weekends away for Brunswick families, Wang was the exclamation mark; the climax; the end of the road; the… well, you get the picture.
And the Brunswick Juniors once again did the club proud: some amazing results from kids that started at the Junior Clinic, and are now on the road to greatness!

It’s bigger than Ben Hur people, first up is the Pop Stewart Memorial this Saturday starting at 10am.
The ”Pop Stewart” is the Premier Handicap for every Brunswick member, the names engraved on the Trophy read like a whos who of elite cycling.
Now don’t eat too much for lunch because in the evening we have an Enduro Party at Harrison St.

Pop was renowned for his attention to detail, his preparation of the Allard Park cinder track is one example [similar to tennis court gravel], he would water, rake and roll the surface and no one would be permitted on the track for at least three hours to allow it to settle. Everyone could tell the difference if someone else had prepared the track on a Saturday. Pop was the Handicapper, back then every Saturday was a Handicap at Brunswick. The common goal of any young competitor was to make it to A grade and work their way back to Scratch. That’s what Pop would tell you and his words encouraged all to give it their best effort.

This week is your chance to ride in honour of one of Brunswick’s past important clubmen. Do not miss the Pop Stewart memorial handicap. It will be run on 4 laps of the Pastoria circuit. Registration at Kyneton saleyards. A very impressive memorial trophy is up for grabs for the first Brunswick rider over the line as well as minimum $500 prizemoney. Remember to pre-enter on line before 9pm Wednesday.
