Clinic’s Up and Running!

Well the Brunswick Sunday Clinic is off and running for the 08/09 season.

Perfect conditions were on hand as were more than 45 eager kids and their parents.

One of the great things about "being there" is trying to remember names from the previous summer, some of them must take my nutrition talks very seriously as they grow very quickly over the winter!

Organising such a large group is one many challenges to be met during the morning, however, with Super Secretary Sheryl V and her band of merry (from the night before!) ladies as well as all the parents the umbrellas and taj mahal were up before I even thought of them.

With introductions out of the way, it was down to the fun end of business with the nervous new comers trying to master the art of controling a fixed wheel bike.

This year is already notable for almost all of them being eager to try the toe clips and ride with hands in the drops!

After two sessions of speed control drills and watching the demonstration scratch race it was time for our new comers to experiance their first attempt at track racing.

There was a 100% success rate!
No falls!
Everyone rode straight!
Everone was out of breath…(including some parents)
Everone had fun!

Now that we can keep a safe distance behind the wheel in front and control our speed we can begin trying some different types of racing.

Next Sunday is the Lyndelle Higginson Teams Relay, Lyndelle was a gun rider who started at the clinic! Her career saw her win Australian Titles and represent Australia at both Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

The best thing is you never know what Cam might think of on the day!!
