Road Intro Action

Almost perfect weather conditions was on hand for those who travelled to the South Gisborne circuit on Saturday for the Road Introduction Session, cool, cloudy and a stiff breeze.

Alf and Cam started the afternoon with a presentation on the basic requirements a rider needs for the upcoming winter season:

  • Pre race clothing, equipment, food & drink
  • Race clothing, equipment, food & drink
  • Post race clothing, equipment, food & drink
  • Rules
  • Race types
  • Race ettiquette
  • Race tactics

Then it was on the bike for some practical drills:

  • wheel following skills
  • riding in a group up the road, down the road and in a head wind
  • Climbing options and strategies
  • Sprinting
  • Time Trialing and U turns
  • Cornering

After all that the final demonstration was on basic bike care, cleaning & lubrication.

The great thing was the diversity of those who came along,  juniors to seniors all enjoyed the experience and left with a greater understanding of what to expect this coming Road Season.

Special thanks to Ben Ladner & Geelong’s Aaron Box for coming out and assisting with the day.

A suggestion was made that another session be conducted in six weeks or so, by then they will have had some racing time and will more than likely have more questions.

Stay tuned for the date, onya cam
