Rapido Madison

On May 19th and June 2nd, Brunswick CC hosted the Rapido Madson in conjunction with Tuesday night track racing. 20 keen A-grade riders had a go at the demanding discipline and their efforts were well-appreciated by a decent crowd on both nights. Special thanks to Rapido Cycles for sponsoring the event and to Ewin Williams for the initial organisation and for running Madison training sessions over summer. Both nights were a great success. Thanks to all the helpers on the night, and thanks to the riders for having a go. Below are the full results for each event.

Rapido 40

The first of the Madison sessions was a 40 km race, with sprints every 5 km. Winning most of the sprint points, Olly Phillips and Stuart Grimsey (Rapido) built a commanding lead, which was sealed midway when they took a lap on the field among confusion from a crash between Aaron Box (Torquay) and Gavin Sittampalan (Germany). Gavin and Brent Nelson (Germany) were penalised for changing in a sprint lap, missing out on crucial points, their crash neutralised an attempt to take a lap and left them fighting for minor places.

Rapido Chase

The second session of the Madison involved a distance and time race in three parts: 30 laps with sprints every 10, 30 minutes chase, then 30 laps with sprints every 10. The low number of sprints made every point count and with no team managing to break free from the group, the top three teams finished on the same lap. James Mowatt and Rhys Gillett (Cycle City) won the final sprint, but missed out on first place by a single point. They had swapped sprints with Olly and Stuart (Rapido) on each sprint, but lost what turned out to be the deciding point with 20 laps to go.
