Brunswick Cycling Club

Last weekend saw the final 4 events of the 2010 Victorian junior Track Championships. I say the last 4 events because the weekend before at the echuca carnival the Scratch race championship was conducted in extreme heat. Thank goodness the weather was milder this weekend for the riders and supporters at DISC.

It was great to see Vanessa Bof having a crack at the Time Trial & Pursuit after her accident, arm still in a half cast!!

Lots of Personal Bests on both days and a few rides that felt & looked fast but the clocks said otherwise, ahh well we’ve all had those days!!

A truck load of equipment, and bus loads of family and friends made the two days exciting and fun!!

Great to see the majority of entrants preferring to avoid the pidgeon hole syndrome and contest all the events too, I still haven’t heard  of a 12 year old “sprinter”  or met a 14 year old who’s pushing the numbers and has the VO2 of an “enduro”.

It never fails to amaze how in junior sport it’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight IN the dog, every event saw some amazing efforts, be they top age or pint size bottom age dynamos.

The younger half of the brothers Hood had a great campaign, the reward for his hard training and racing has earned him a spot in the M15 Victorian team to contest the National Championships here in Melbourne in March.

Other U 15’s to throw their hat into the ring were, Slatts, james payne, Christian Molinia and Bryce Holloway.

Special mention to our sole M17 Tyson “tornado” Breen who reset his PB times in all 3 of the timed events.

Brunswicks Angels, Vanessa, Ebony & Madeleine could be heard talking and laughing all weekend and some racing here and there….  that’s the way to do it!!

Probably the most exciting event was the Pursuit finals with close finishes and riders smashing PB’s. Young Courtney Field ripped 6 seconds off her qualifying time to almost snatch the Gold in the W15.

With the weekend over, our attention now shifts to Jan 30 for the Brunswick open. We still need help so if you can spare the afternoon or evening let Nathan know and you can help the event be the best race meet on the planet.
