Henry Hill Memorial Champion. #1 in so many ways

Young Brendan Schultz showed his class to win the inaugral Henry Hill Memorial Motor Pace on a Hot Saturday night.

It was a race of attrition as the speed (up to 56kph) and distance took its toll on the field and by the end there were five remaining.

Schultz had enough left in him at the bell to get over Brunswick’s Casey Munro with Brendan Bailey third.

Hailing from Hamilton which is also home for another of Victoia’s cycling greats, Wal Smith, Brendan had the honour of wearing the number one plate.

When I started racing one of the dreams you had as a young rider was to be good enough to wear the number 1 saddle cloth, but with it comes an expectation that the wearer perform and behave at the highest level.

For anyone that was at DISC Saturday night you would agree that Brendan was indeed worthy wearing the #1.

  1. He was always ready and at the line well before his start time.
  2. He raced at 100% in every event, in fact he placed in all events he contested.
  3. He acknowleged the crowds applause and cheers.
  4. He presented himself at the victory ceremony in his sponsors kit.
  5. He spoke well at the post race interview.
  6. He kept the area he used for his warm up neat and tidy throughout the evening.

Brendan is a credit to the TITANS RACE Team and a worthy winner, congratulations young man.
