Hot Tip #3

This weekend is the Victorian Junior Track Championships… It should be a time for excitement and enjoyment. For those who have entered, what are your expectations and goals for the weekend?

If you haven’t thought of  any consider one or two of these.

Personal Goals,

  • make a list of things to pack in your bag.
  • use your list and pack your bag friday night.
  • have your bike, spares, pump etc at the front door with your bag before you go to bed.
  • work out with Mum & Dad what time you need to wake up and set your alarm
  • work out what you will have for breakfast and set it out before you go to bed
  • work out what you will have for snacks and lunch and pack it before you go to bed

It sounds a lot but it doesn’t take more than half an hour to do, if you are an U17 it’s time you started becoming independant and this is the best way to start!

by getting ready the night before you can maximise your bed rest and sleep well because you know everything is ready to go.

Competition goals could be,

  • Being organised in your set up, try not to have the contents of your bag spread out over half the infield.
  • Keep track of the time and who is on the track so you know when to start your warm up.
  • keep snacking & drinking during the day to keep yourself race ready.
  • If you are feeling a bit drowsy go for a walk outside and get some fresh air.
  • Aim for a perfect start.
  • Aim for a smooth line around the track in the TT, 200 & pursuit.
  • Aim for a personal best time or if this is your first championship then aim for your best effort.

Championship Goals,

  • Enjoy the experience, no matter what your time or placing is, you had the courage to enter and have a crack!
  • Watch the top seeds and see how they organise themselves and prepare.
  • Be supportive and encourage your friends and club mates.
  • Encourage everyone!
  • Thank your Mum & Dad for supporting you & putting up with your hissey fits over the weekend!!

Remember, cycling is a sport..we can live the dream, but have some fun along the way!!!
