Stuart Grimsey: From the Austral 2008 to France 2010
I was wondering why I hadn’t seen young Stuart Grimsey around the traps lately… He’s in Lyon, France!!!
Stuart is some one I would describe as a quiet achiever, there isn’t any fuss, no strutting around or shouting, he simply lets his front wheel do the talking.
2008 was a good year, the 110th running of the Austral Wheelrace saw no less than five Brunswick riders make the final and what a final it was, with Stuart holding off another Brunswick young gun Casey Munro for 3rd. (OMG that’s right, they ride track as well)
Trivia Question….who is the other long time Brunswick member who has placed in an Austral??
Three Brunswick lads who raced on that evening in 2008 are currently enjoying the thrill of racing around Europe and the UK, Stuart (Vulco Vaulex en Velin), Casey Munro (Pendragon Sports/Colnago) and Mitch Docker (Skill Shimano)
I’ve set them all a challenge… In 25 words (or there abouts) give us an insight on what they are doing in 2010.
Well, first to reply was Stuey and here is his adventure so far…onya
G’day Cam!
For those that didn’t know, for the 2010 season I will be living and racing in and around Lyon, France with Division One team, Team Vulco Vaulx en Velin, which has produced many current professionals such as Christophe Moreau, Sylvain Calzati, Cyril Dessel, Samuel Dumoulin and Remi Cusin. The team has 16 riders with the majority made up of Under 23 riders with our team captain being Christophe Laurent, who has come back to the amateurs after racing for 8 years as a professional for big teams like Credit Agricole, Garmin and Agritubel and having ridden the biggest bike races in the world like the Tour de France and Paris – Roubaix.
I arrived in France at the end of January, when it was still a chilly -7, and will be heading back home by mid October. During my 9 months here in France the team will be competing in numerous UCI 2.2/ 1.2 races, the Coupe de France series (which I am told by Christophe is just as hard and if not harder than professional racing!) and big Under 23 races like Paris – Tours at the end of the season. So far has been great and the racing here is a big step up from that of Australia.
My best result so far was a 6th place in a stage race where I managed to beat an Ag2r espoir rider in the sprint. I am enjoying the challenges that have been thrown at me so far, such as illness, climate, culture and language and I am looking forward to the next half of the season!
Team Vulco Vaulex en Velin is home for Brunswick’s Stuart Grimsey for 2010
