Club Teams…little things help Big Time.

With the Club Teams Championships a little over 2 days away here are some little tips that will help you big time.

  1. Get an early night Friday & Saturday.. A rested athlete is a prepared and ready competitor.
  2. Don’t try anything new this includes food, drink and equipment. Stick with what you know works for you.
  3. Eat well…No fish & chips or junk, eat what you normally do for performance.
  4. Check the equipment, lube & clean the bike, check your tyres for cuts.
  5. Check your clothing & pack it neatly, clean your helmet, shoes & glasses.
  6. If you are racing Saturday follow a good recovery schedule, eat & rehydrate within 20mins of the finish of the race. Stretch & “roll out” the legs on the indoor trainer for around 20mins at 60% of MHR when you get home. Have a shower & give your legs a  massage.

Don’t stand if you can sit, don’t sit if you can lay down… great advice that I have heard from many Champions so why not use it.

Miners Rest is near Ballarat, so the weather will be cold, windy and possibly wet.

So plan to pack more than one set of bike clothing in case you get wet during your warm up.

Check your start time and plan your morning, work from the start time and work backwards.

  • arrive at start line approx 5mins before time
  • toilet stop & change into dry kit
  • warm up
  • change into warm up kit
  • assemble bike
  • set up trainer
  • set out bag
  • eat & drink if necessary
  • give your team chaperone your license
  • locate Brunswick HQ
  • arrive

These are what many of us regard as “one percenters”, small things that reduce stress and distractions allowing you to be calm and able to focus on the important things.
