Time Trial Tip #1

This Saturday  is the Brunswick Time Trial Championship (as well as the combine tt champs)

Waaay back when I was a kid it was called the Unpaced Championship…and I have the sash to prove it..

Anyway, here is a simple tip that can save you some stress on the day.

RELAX

Getting yourself into a nervous state before the start only burns energy.

That is energy better used out on the course.

So organise everything before you have dinner friday night, if you are going to wear your kit in the car then lay it out next to your bed so when you wake up all you have to do is put it on…sounds silly but most of us will be frantically searching for socks or gloves as the car is backing out the driveway!!!

Don’t change anything this week, do what you normally do, if you change what you eat or the way you normally train it can throw your body and mind off balance.

If you haven’t been doing one training ride a week with your aero bars for the past 4-6 weeks or are going to buy some tomorrow, save your time and money and race it like we used to in the “traditional” style.

Aero positioning takes practise and time, it is a completely different set up to the one you ride in normally, so if you haven’t been practising then your body will be stressed in the unfamiliar position and wasting energy trying to cope with the different set up.

And finally, ever seen the start of the Time Trials in Europe?

No one wobbles when being held, why?

Because they have practised this and have worked on their balance, they don’t stand up before the beep wobbling and twisting the bars from side to side.

They are relaxed, focused and roll down the ramp and then accelerate.

That’s why they get girls in 4 inch heels to hold them!!!!
