This Saturday the Northern Combines last race for the year will be held at National Boulevard, Campbellfield. Juniors will have registration from 9am and racing from 9:15am. Can all seniors please warm up in the opposite direction while the juniros are racing.

Hawthorn are hosting excellent road racing at South Gisborne this Saturday. Two womens grades! Junior racing will be on- remember no pre entry required for juniors. Go to combine website for details and senior pre entry. Great preparation for Brunswick road champs on oct 8th and only 35mins by car or a ~90 min training ride to get there.

 The “POP” Stewart Memorial Trophy                                    

 It is without doubt the most prestigeous road trophy a Brunswick rider can have their name on.

In racing terms the day was not ideal for the Scratch men in the 2011 “POP” Stewart Memorial road race at Kyneton last Saturday, a warming sun was shining and barely a zephyr of a breeze accompanied the limit markers as they set off on their 77km journey.

“I remember well my first meeting with Pop Stewart. It was my first ever bike race as a 14 year old at Mickleham Rd. Pop was the handicapper, he put me off limit and I finished last, but I remember well his encouragement to come back the next week and try again. I guess I’m still coming back for more 40 odd years later, I owe him a lot!!!! I think one of Pop’s great qualities was his equal treatment to all, whether you were an Australian Champion or riding off limit, he had time for everyone. Pop was a long serving handicapper with Brunswick and also was handicapper for the VACU (Pre VCF and CSV) for several years. He was a great servant to both Brunswick and Victorian Cycling.” Richard McCorkell
