Race Report: Victorian Club Teams Track Championships – Seniors

W. Dapcich, Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Following the juniors on Saturday, it was the chance for Brunswick’s Elite and Masters riders to come together and pit themselves against other clubs on the Sunday. Whilst many of the Victorian clubs weren’t there and thus numbers down, the standard of the racing was still high with some old rivalries re-ignited (all friendly banter really!!).

The National Track Championships – Ben Abels

Admin, Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

What an honour to be selected as part of the Victorian team for the National Track Championships. We flew out of Melbourne bound for Adelaide on January 24. We had two days of training and two days to get used to the heat. The racing started on Australia Day. Thank goodness for the ice baths and the ice vests! Our accommodation was luxurious and the venue was only a 20 minute ride away; although we were driven most of the time as it really was too hot – 35⁰.

Brunswick Spirit Shines at Junior Club Teams

C. McFarlane, Monday, February 20th, 2012

It was a busy day for all involved with the 17 Brunswick Juniors who proudly threw their hats in the ring when nominations were called for a couple of months ago.
All except Emily Dunk rode both Team Sprint and Pursuit events, Emilys Sprint team mate Gemma suffering a last minute bout of gastro or something.
There were some big performances from individuals and teams, perhaps the most notable being the trust the M13 team showed in their coach during the Team Sprint Gold Final.

RR: Victorian Masters Track Championships

W. Dapcich, Thursday, February 9th, 2012

This past weekend saw the running of the Victorian Masters Track Championships at DISC. Nine Brunswick riders made the decision to enter and amazingly (first time I recall in any championship event) every one of them walked away with a podium place and of course a medal. To add to that a number of Brunswick riders posted their personal best times along the way.

Cycling Victoria Awards, Kendelle & Her Club get a Gong

C. McFarlane, Sunday, February 5th, 2012

The lead up to the Cycling Victoria Awards night is cloaked in secrecy, if you are fortunate enough to be receiving an award you can’t tell anyone and this makes it difficult to get friends and those who have helped and supported you to come along to an evening that, well let’s be honest, is a tad dull if you aren’t getting a gong.

So, rather than have one of our committee people have to suffer the night on their own we decided to invite all those riders and volunteers who have been a part of the reasons for the Club receiving the Cycling Victoria Club of the Year Award to join some of our committe people, past and present, in the celebrations.

Well done Alex – Winner Wangaratta Wheelrace

L. Hocking, Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Taken from the Wangaratta Chronicle

WANGARATTA mountain bike star Alex Meyland showed his prowess isn’t just restricted to the dirt on Saturday night by taking out a thrilling win in the prestigious Wangaratta Wheelrace.
In a stunning night for the local youngster, Meyland not only won the wheelrace but also claimed both his scratch races and took out the 1000m handicap title.
But it was his victory in the wheelrace the feature cycling event of the night that was his best win and he said it took a while to sink in.
“I’m very happy to have won it,” he said.
“It was a bit of a shock for sure. It took the announcers a couple of goes to find out who won and then it took me a little bit to realise I had won.”
Starting off a handicap of 180m, the race was set up for a cracking finish when the entire field became bunched with two and a half laps to go.
Meyland, well aware of the pace of the riders that started behind him, placed himself exceptionally well and went for the win at the right time, just holding out a fast finishing Sam Crome.
“The plan was to keep an eye on what was going on behind me, initially,” Meyland said.
“But the field came together with about two laps to go so I had to place myself in the right spot. Then it was all about letting loose at the right time. Sam was on my wheel the whole last lap but I managed to just hold him off.”

Well done Emma Pane!!

Admin, Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Congratulations to Emma Pane on winning stage 2 of the Division 2 race at the Women’s Grand Prix yesterday. The race was won in a very tight fast finish in sweltering conditions. The Brunswick team is ranked 6th in the teams classification out of an impressive 16 teams. Well done to all team members Emma Pane, Rebecca Williamson, Sue Cox, Nonie Carr and Von Micich. Not all of us are Brunswick members but we are all flying the Brunswick banner. Stay tuned for round 3 in Bendigo on Feb 12th.

Brunswick Juniors make a Statement

H. Hart, Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Another weekend of track racing for the under-15 and under-17 boys and girls and this time the stakes were high with State Championship medals and State Team selection up for grabs…

Overall, we can be extremely proud of our juniors who all dug deep to deliver medals and and many PBs. Saturday saw the time trials and pursuits; while Sunday featured the Sprint and Scratch races. Might be easiest if we sum up each category individually.
