W.A’s Speed Dome lives up to it’s name

C. McFarlane, Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Round 4 of Cycling Australias’ National Junior Track Series saw Brunswicks Ruby Rosemann Gannon, Greta Curran, Riley Hart and Ryan Schilt travel west to Perth and the Speed Dome in Midvale.

It was an early start for everyone and Cam was busy with dropping off Neville the wonder bike at harrison Street for the Club racing that afternoon before taking advantage of the offer of free parking at “George & Greta’s” airport parking and valet service!

Check in is now silky smooth with these kids having the travelling with a bike thing down pat, with tools and spare packing tape in the bike box and their kit and stuff packed in their carry on luggage.

Looooong day… Good times… Great Results…

H. Hart, Sunday, November 27th, 2011

Good times indeed for a whole batch of Brunswick riders at the weekend’s Metropolitan Championships. Things kicked off with the TTs right on 9am and young Matthew King (J11) kicked things off in style for Brunswick with a speedy 51.011 for his 500m to take Gold! Sarah (JG13) and Nathan (JB13) then followed up with a pair of Silvers riding some excellent times – 45.311 and 45.669 respectively.

Tuesday Training Busy Busy Busy

C. McFarlane, Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Well Tuesday was a busy session!

The group practised their Gate starts and sprint qualifying entry for this weekends Metro Track Champs.

3 days out from a major event an athlete won’t gain any significant fitness adaptation but they can fine tune their techniques and this was what they worked on during the session by completing a start/200 entry drill.

Starting in the back straight, participants completed a half lap medium effort gate start and then as they entered the back straight they would move up to the fence and roll through their flying 200 entry line.

NJTS Round 3 a Thriller in the Apple Isle

C. McFarlane, Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

We all know there can be a lot of politics and self interest in sport.
The lack of both in the National Junior track series is what makes it so AWESOME!
Over 100 junior athletes simply racing, doing the best they can to accumulate points for their club makes for some fantastic competition.

Before the Brunswick “awesome foursome” of Ryan Schilt, Riley Hart, Greta Curran and W15 series leader Ruby Roseman-Gannon got on the plane a familiar face was waiting at the departure lounge, none other than Ritchie Porte who was on his way home to tassie after a long European season and with Harry and Riley being “locals” we were entertained with Ritchies report of his experiences and what 2012 holds in store, as well as a team photo!

10 miles no trouble for the man with the “Big Block”

C. McFarlane, Monday, November 7th, 2011

A perfect day greeted competitors for the start of the Summer season at the Harrison St Track.
Thanks to a lack of attention by our land lord the infield grass was so high you almost couldn’t see the kids ride down the back straight!!!
Proceedings commenced with a 10 mile paced warm up, and was followed up quickly with a ladies invitational paced points race with Ruby Roseman Gannon taking the deep breaths to go out alone and gain a lap before heading off to a party. (sport is all about finding a balance)

Tuesday Juniors Play with their Recovery

C. McFarlane, Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Recovery sessions can take many forms and yesterday the Tuesday Juniors “played” during theirs.

After our customary warm up we first walked through some sprint basics discussing possible scenarios and options then jumped on the bikes to try them.
High, low, fast and slow, they practised most of the common tactics they will encounter this season, they also rolled through a few of the possible entry lines for a flying 200.
Before you knew it the hour was up and after a 10 minute cool down they were ready for racing.
Next week we will doing it again, yes we know it’s cup day but unlike the “stayers” who will be participating at Flemington we will be working on our explosive 10 second stuff.

See you all at 4.30
